Senator Jerry Moran Visits Cowley College Following Announcement of $264,000 Welding Grant
U.S. Senator Jerry Moran visited Cowley College on November 25th to tour the newly constructed Tyler Technical Education Center and highlight the college鈥檚 welding program expansion. The visit follows the August announcement of a $264,000 Community Project Funding/Congressional Directed Spending grant, secured through Senator Moran鈥檚 support, to enhance Cowley鈥檚 welding program.
The federal grant is used to acquire state-of-the-art welding equipment, integrate advanced technologies like robotics, and provide advanced training for faculty. The program鈥檚 expansion into the Tyler Technical Education Center addresses growing demands for skilled welding technicians in South Central Kansas.
During his visit, Senator Moran spoke about the importance of workforce development and community colleges preparing students for in-demand careers.
鈥淲e're increasing the opportunities for people to be educated in Kansas and then stay in Kansas,鈥� said Senator Moran. 鈥淚t's one of the challenges we face across our state, there are many job opportunities, but there's not a workforce. And what I'm seeing here, what I'm reminded of is that our community colleges, a lot of work is being done that sets the stage for Kansas to have a better future.鈥�
Cowley College President Dr. Michelle Schoon expressed gratitude for Senator Moran鈥檚 ongoing support of workforce development programs.
