Two Winfield High School Seniors Awarded Quiz Bowl Scholarships at Cowley College

Eli Hubble and Rawson Ray

Cowley College鈥檚 Collegiate Quiz Bowl program is proud to announce the signing of two standout academic scholars from Winfield High School. Eli Hubble and Rawson Ray have each been awarded two-year scholarships to join the Cowley College Quiz Bowl team, beginning in the fall of 2025.

The scholarships were formally awarded during Winfield High School鈥檚 Senior Awards Night, where Cowley Quiz Bowl Coach Dianne Flickinger celebrated the occasion in person.

鈥淚t was an honor for me to attend their Senior Award night and present these scholarships,鈥 Flickinger shared. 鈥淚鈥檝e been eagerly awaiting Eli Hubble鈥檚 graduation for two years after getting to know his family through his older brother, Zane.鈥

Zane Hubble left a lasting mark on Cowley鈥檚 Quiz Bowl legacy, holding multiple individual records鈥攊ncluding most tossups answered (373), total points (3,765), and highest points per 20 tossups heard (44.56%). He was a key member of Cowley鈥檚 historic 2023 team, which finished 8th nationally鈥攖he college鈥檚 highest placement to date鈥攁nd ranked first individually in Kansas.

Now, the torch passes to Eli Hubble, who enters Cowley with high expectations and a legacy to continue.

Also joining the Cowley Quiz Bowl family is Rawson Ray, another talented member of Winfield鈥檚 Scholar鈥檚 Bowl team. Their recruitment was sparked by Jimmy Ball, a current Cowley team member and friend of both students, who played alongside them in high school.

鈥淛immy refers to this group as the 鈥榙ream team鈥 and believes Eli and Rawson have the potential to achieve greatness at Cowley,鈥 said Flickinger. 鈥淗e鈥檚 been instrumental in encouraging them to reunite and compete at the next level.鈥

Coach Flickinger already has high hopes for the upcoming season, which includes a matchup against the nationally ranked second-place team in Oklahoma this September.

At Cowley, many Quiz Bowl members have joined through word-of-mouth or family connections鈥攁 tradition that continues with Eli and Rawson. Like the Hubbles, the Aggson family has a strong legacy at Cowley, with brothers Justin, Laurence, and Ian (Individual state champion and a member of the 2025 State Champion team - Ian is now ranked fourth among the best Cowley College Quiz Bowlers of all time) having already competed, and youngest brother Patrick set to join in the fall.

With new talent, experienced leadership, and a growing legacy of excellence, Cowley College鈥檚 Quiz Bowl team looks ahead to another competitive and promising season.
